Sander with tarantulaBorn and raised in Germany, Sander left his home country at age 22 and followed his love of wild places and urge to live a life close to nature. In 2008 he relocated to the small town of Tofino in Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on the remote west coast of Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada. Sander started pursuing one of his dreams to work as an outdoor photographer and sea kayak guide surrounded by a stunning habitat composed of some of the last ancient temperate rainforests on our planet, the raw power of the Pacific coastline, labyrinths of fjords and islands, majestic river valleys as well as high mountain terrain–all inhabited by a myriad of fascinating wildlife species. His passions for the wilderness and the mystical beauty of the Pacific Northwest ecosystems drive his photographic work. His work focuses on environmental photojournalism, editorial style wilderness, adventure and outdoor sport topics for nature conservation organizations, magazines as well as the eco-tourism sector. Last winter, during the moody climate of the Pacific Northwest, Sander started looking for volunteer opportunities in Costa Rica–about whose natural grandeur and amazing biodiversity he has recently heard. When he came across Rancho Delicioso and Anamaya Retreat Center online he liked the idea of cooperation between a health resort and an innovative tropical farm that would provide food for the guests at the resort, inspire farms and communities in its surroundings and thereby materialize the vision of a more self-controlled and sustainable life project in an incredibly aesthetic and beautiful location.

“The volunteer program at Rancho Delicioso is a great opportunity for me as it allows me to enjoy some wholesome work in a beautiful environment, learn about different aspects of organic farming and develop some basic technical and building skills while at the same time there is space for my photographic skills and creativity.”
